Oral day 9 ( FINALLY)
.Friday 3 July 2009Y12:16.
Like finally its the last one. OMG, this is like so boring ( and not helpful )

This picture depicts a scene of a Biology laboratory. The students are clad in white coats and are wearing white gloves. I think that they are probably university students. There are many petri dishes of agar on the table. the students should be doing an experiment on the grow of a bateria or fungus. There is also distilled water on the table which could be used as the 'control' in the experiment. I can see that there are several sheets of paper on the table. These sheets of paper could be experimental instructions and also a paper to record their observations after the experiment. One of the girls appears to be streaking some samples onto the agar jelly very carefully. From what I can see, she is being very careful as she had only opened half the lid of the agar jelly, an essential during an experiment to prevent other bateria from the environment from affecting results. All the students seem to be having fun with the experiment as can be seen from the smiled from their faces. They are probably excited to see the results of the experiment. The students might be carrying out other Biology experiments later that day which might involve the usage of the can of distilled water while waiting for the results of the experiment with the agar jelly to show.

Coversation.

1. My favourite subjects in school are maths and biology. I like maths as it is very thought-provoking and I enjoy the sense of achievement I get when I can figure how to solve a difficult maths question. I also like challenging myself with difficult question because the satisfactory of finally being able to solve the question is overwhelming. For biology, I like it as it is very informative and in-depth on how living things like us humans work. I find very interesting as of why we are made this way and not other. It also gives me an insight of how the world works, how plants make food, how humans respire, how animals survive.
After I graduate from this school, I would like to study biology or psychology if I have a chance because I find both subjects related to the human mind and body, and thus should be worth while pursuing it. Also, studying such subjects will give me a chance to help people in the world by pursuing jobs that concentrate in such areas. If I can after my ‘O’ level examinations I would choose to go to a Junior college before I finally go University. I think everyone should go to University as in the society of today, certificates and qualifications are really important if you want to get a decent job or career in the world of today. Without qualifications, people may think that you are not well-educated enough and deprive you of your dream job or position.

2. Science is the study of how things work around us. It is important as we have to learn it to know and understand why and how things work around us. Without science, we would be probably still being living in the Stone Age during prehistoric times, where we dress as caveman and munch on raw animals for survival. Only with science can we learn more about our surrounding and make the necessary adjustments for the environment to suit us. I hope that when we students all grow we can contribute to society and the world and innovative ideas and inventions that make the world a much better place for us to live. I would encourage young children to take part in more hands-on and practical experiments to ignite their interest in science, as children have boundless energy and it would be useful if we can convert their enthusiasm into something that can benefit them when they grow up, such as doing cool and interesting science experiments. On the view make boys make better scientists than girls, I disagree with this view. It is not like boys have bigger brains than girls, and while I agree that boys tend to show more interest in science-related matters, it does not mean that they are the better scientists. How I feel we should rate a scientist is based on his or her contributions inventions or breakthroughs, and we should definitely not be gender-biased. I believe that, as long as we work hard to put our effort and time in what we believe in, we will ultimately succeed in life. The deciding factor is whether you are willing to work hard for what you want.

Oral day 3
.Thursday 2 July 2009Y23:25.
This picture depicts a scene at a beach. In the background, there are row of closely packed trees, a signpost and a van at the top right hand corner of the picture. Perhaps this picture was taken at a park like East Coast Park. There are many people at the beach and this is probably because it is the weekend or a public holiday. There is a group of girls in the background talking. they are probably sun tanning.

There is a group of children ploughing the sand, some of them squatting, some of them standing, walking around. They are probably building a sand castle. Those standing could have been trying to find seashells to decorate their sand castle.

There is also a group of seven in the foreground packing sand. They are also building a sand castle. Maybe the two groups are having a competition.
Judging from their facial expressions, they seem to be enjoying themselves but at the same time, serious about building the base of a sand castle.

These children could be having a class outing.
The woman in the white hat is probably their teacher, supervising them on what to do. It is probably a really sunny day as she is wearing a cap, and the children are squinting under the sun. Maybe later in the day they could pllay games at the beach or have a picnic or barbecue.

Coversation.

1. There are many competitions i have entered, most of which are sport competitions, such as netball tournaments or long jumping. I've taken part in netball competitions and carnivals, which are friendly matches with other schools. Entering the competition, i
knew that as a team, we had to work hard and work together to win a game. We trained every week to bring up our fitness and our tactics. With the help of our wonderful coach, we managed to win a few matches.
Playing the wing-defence, i had to put in more effort into perfecting some of the defenc tactics so as to be able to intercept the ball from the opposing team. I was able to do my best with the support of my team mates.
Being in a competition is not all about winning, its about the experience, to learn what other teams can do and learn from them to improve ourselves. I enjoy competition because it gives me a chance to learn new ways of defending different types of wing-attacks. Competiting gives me motivation to work hard inorder to work towards my full potential, no matter what competition it is.

2.
Many children enjoy playing computer games or video games as they are captivating and have stunning graphics or just the excitement of the game, the excitement of the competition. Computer games were designed to capture the interest of the player, to make the player want to play the game more. Most computer games give children to interact with people form other parts of the conuntry or other parts of the world, these are called online computer games. Game such as DOTA, AUDITION and MAPLE give people a chance to not only talk online but also to play with their friends, which could be a common topic to talk about. Although games can be stimulating and exciting, there are also disadvantages to them. Msot of these disadvantages are health related.
Addiction is common among gamers. Gamers that are addicted to a game can play a game for hours non-stop, not even taking time off to eat or sleep. Such behaviour cause health problems such as exhaustion, which is cause the child to not be able to concentrate in class. Also, sitting too along at the computer is bad for your back, which is why many students nowadays, at a young age are already complaining from backaches. Staring too long at the computer screen is also not good for the eye sight. One should take an "eye break" every half an hour to relax the eyes. Because of the new cumputer games, and advanced technology, the number of myopic children are increasing every year.
Also, many of these children choose computer games over going outdoors for some exercise. This could lead to an unhealthy lifestyle and obesity at times.

Oral day 7
.Y12:54.
This picture depicts a scene of a hawker centre. I can see this because it is below a HDB flat and there are round tables everywhere.I can see an elderly man wearing a loose white T-shirt mopping the floor. He is accompanied by a woman in a black shirt. Perhaps they are two of the hawkers in this hawker centre and are helping in cleaning the floor of the hawker centre. I feel that this is a good sign as by doing so, they are practicing good hygiene. Its is good that all the hawker workers are willing to help clean up the place to make it a better place to eat at. Most hawker centres only have cleaners to clear the table, moreover these cleaners are mostly over 50 already. If everyone is willing to pitch in a little to help clean up the place, it would not take a very long time to finish the job. Some of the passers-by are carrying a grin on their face. Perhaps they are happy to see that the hawkers are concerned about hygiene, not only about making money. There is a group of young people that are helping out to clean. They could be doing a community project which i feel is praise worthy as some young people already refuse to eat at hawker centres, what mor clean them.

conversation.

1. I live at River valley road, somewhere near Orchard and lies in the business district. My house is a condominium with lots of facilities for us to maintain a healthy lifestyle such as swimming pools and gyms. My house itself has four main rooms of which my parents take the largest one and me and my two sisters each take the remaining rooms. We have a balcony were we plant lots of plants such as cactus and we also have a small pond will two fishes swimming in it. Our living room is quite spacious with plush sofas, a large television and a round dining table. I think I am a tidy person as I always make it a habit to clean up my table every time after I study to remove any pencil shavings or eraser dust. I also pack up my books and bags the days before I go to school or for tuition so that the will not be late or panicky when I wake up the next day. My maid help to clean my house clean. She wakes up early every morning to sweep the floor with a broom. After that she would start to mop the floor beginning from the living room to the kitchen, and would proceed to clean our rooms after we have woken up.

2. I think hygiene is important as it greatly affects our health. Now, with the H1N1 influenza at large, I think it is more important to manage our personal hygiene and prevent the spread of the virus to other people. It would be difficult to have good hygiene when you are living in undesirable conditions. For example, when there is a lack of necessities such as water, we may not be able to brush our teeth, clean our bodies or even wash our hands before we eat. This allows germs to spread around easily and may infect us when we eat or drink food contaminated with germs. I think the only problem with being too hygienic is that it stirs the discomfort of others. They may think that you are over-exaggerating and fussy about every single thing that you do. Also, you may be giving the wrong impression if you clean a door knob right after it has been used by someone. You may be spreading the wrong message that that someone’s hand is not clean but full of germs. Though it is advisable to have a hygienic lifestyle, life would literally stop if we become too hygienic.

Oral day 5
.Y12:02.
This picture depicts a scene at the science laboratory. There are groups of students doing science practicals on pulleys. A pulley system is set up on a retort stand to demonstrate how a real pulley works. There is a group consisting of four students, a bespectacled girl and three other boys. I can also see an experienced bespectacled physics teacher with curly hair on the left of the picture. She appears to be explaining the principle of the pulley while demonstrating how the pulley works. This can be seen by her act of pulling a string connected to the pulley. The bespectacled girl along with the boy with a name tag next to her are taking their mechanical pencils and flipping open an exercise book. Perhaps they are about to jot down what the teacher had just explained to them in the exercise book. The teacher may have been setting up the set-ups and carrying out the experiment repeatedly to different classes in the day. Despite this, she is still not bored of repeating the experiment over and over again, which can be seen by the smile on her face. All 3 of the students are very concentrated on what the teacher is saying, which i feel is the right attitude to learning.

coversation.

1. A subject I enjoy at school is biology. Though it is very informative and even complicated sometimes, I find it very interesting and in-depth as it teaches me why and how living things work. Also, I get to know more about my own body at the same time and I know what to do when situations arise. I like working with my hands as I find that I learn things a lot better this way and I can also interact with the subject physically, giving me some attachment as well as understanding of the item. Furthermore, I enjoy doing physical activities like sports and it really involves me using my hands and legs to participate. I think it is better to learn form doing things as some things have to require you to experience it yourself before you can really learn about it. Take tennis for example. You cannot be a professional by just reading tens and thousands of guides and tips by others. You have to get inside the court and really try things out.

2.

I think English is one of the most important subjects in school as if you fail in during examples, you may face the possibility of retaining in school, and I am sure that something no student would ever want to experience. If I could re-design my school timetable, I would definitely lengthen the recess period as often, it gets very crowded during recess when everybody is queuing up for food at the same time. And most of the time, before I even get to buy my food, the bell has already rung and we have to go back for class. This affects our ability to concentrate and concentrate in class as we do not have energy in our bodies. Also, I would not mind have more biology periods as I have said before. It is something I would not mind doing over and over again. I think school prepares us quite well for life as we learn how to socialise and interact with our peers to bonds stronger friendships and also we learn important moral values that will put us in good stead for our lives. And there are still the academic results and qualifications that you get after you finish a certain course of schooling which is helpful when applying for jobs to earn money when we step into society.

BORING. DAY 1 ==
.Sunday 14 June 2009Y16:34.
Firstly, i''d like to say that, THIS IS SO BORING, and i SO do NOT wanna be doing this right now. But as if i have a choice, so here goes nothing.

Oral. Picture discussion, DAY ONE.

This picture depicts a scene at an Old Folks Home. Most of the patients are sitting on a wheelchair. Only one of them, sitting on the stoll uses a walking stick to aid him.
The old folks are probably in the recreation room, as there is a television in the room, plus, they are playing ball with the nurses. There is also and excercise area for the old folks. I feel that this is a very good activity to have at the old folks home. This activity would help the elderly to become more active even though most of them are physically disabled. This gives the eldery an chance to excercise their upper body.

There are two girls playing ball with the old folks. They are probably volunteers or nurses. I feel that it is very meaningful that they are willing to spend time with the elderly. Most teenagers these days would rather spend time with technology. However, these two girls chose to spend time helping out at the old folks home, an uncommon sight these days.

Everyone looks very concentrated on the game and should be enjoying themseles. Everyone is keeping their eyes on the ball. The elderly seem to be very comfortable around the two girls. The game has probably given the girls and the elderly a chance to interact. One girl is standing behind the old folks. The two girls probably take turns to play with the old folks.

A day in the life of a resident in this nursing home would probably be really fun and entertaining. not only do the enderly have the younger generation to play with, to talk to, they also have people of their age to accompany them.

All in all, I feel that this picture is able to bring across a message, that as the younger generation, we should not forget the old, and that it would be very meaningful to help the old.

DAY ONE. CONVERSATION.

1. I have only one grandmother around now. I've never seen my paternal grandparents before or my maternal grandfather before. My grandmother lives with me and she takes care of me when my parents are not around. She cooks delicious deserts whenever she is free and sometimes, even cooks dinner. Although she is already 84, she is still as strong as ever. She is able to go to malaysia on her own for a week with her friends, and can climb numerous flights of stairs. She has taught me the chinese traditions that we do not practice these days. She even knows how to have the traditional Nyoya Dumplings ! She has been through the world war two, and has told me all her stories and past experiences.
If i could do something special for her, it would be to grow durian trees for her. She loves to eat durians. For someone at teh age of 84, she has a huge apetite, she would probably be able to eat a whole durian by her self. Her favourite type of durian is the bitter kind.
My grandmother has been through some tough times, but she managed to pull through. Such values of perseverance and optimism is hard to come by.

2. Elderly people should live with their loved ones, where they have their loved ones to care for them and where they get to spend their old age, knowing that their children loves them and cares about them.
If i could design a special home for the enderly, i would definitely include a widescreen tv and confortable chairs. There would so be mahjong tables. Playing mahjong can also help the elderly people to have a more active mind. This special house must have exercise facilities as well, so tat the elderly can keep physically fit.
I feel that healthcare and nursing homes for the elderly should not be free, but depending on the financial status of the family. If the elderly has children that are well of, they should not even be put in the nursing homes, and they they should be charged. However, for those elderly whose children have a low income salary or can barely support themselves, they should not be charged or they should be given government subsidies.

THATS ALL FOR NOW. ( tht was dreadful D: )

Today. T1Wk10.
.Tuesday 24 March 2009Y18:28.
Today, i still think about him, maybe i should just clear my mind for a while. What's the point anyway? Today, I'll write about something else, something that we're all familiar with. Animals.

Animals, interesting creatures of this earth. Each animal being disparate, distinct in kind and essentially different. Different in our actions, reactions and features. We experience different emotions, happiness, sadness and anger, and most of us, would probably have a maudlin story to share, but do we consider ourselves animals?  ( and i thinking of his smile makes me happy )

As a "human", we do not consider ourselves as an animal, but are we or are we not? We supposedly originated from apes, we're mammals, we reproduce to keep life going, we have our instincts, so, aren't we animals? In fact, we're omnivorous.

Of course, some have been considered " animals " because the the way they act, their wrong doings. These people, are usually the ones who revile, the way one speaks really shows their character, their personality.

Today, i still thought of him. The feelings I have is extant, but what do i do? Someone, tell me...

Stickman Murder!
.Friday 13 March 2009Y16:42.
The Stickman murder game is super fun! For some reason, it was boring and fun at the same time, contradicting right? But, seriously, it was boring but SUPER fun! :D

Mr kek! Introduce more games to us! Anyway, trying to find other Stickman Murder games, hoping to solve more mysteries. The satisfaction. xD

I'm suppose to be commenting on the game, but i've got nothing to say.

Well.... It was Interesting, Fun, Interactive, Funny but a little slow. I still love playing the game! Sometimes we have our preferences, so people out there, go try playing the game, tell me whether you think its as fun as i think it is :D

Failed Attempts to stop thinking. Maybe its the way its meant to be. The way he use to tell people from right to wrong, the way he took understanding of situations.

He reminds me of this one time. I was there, at the netball court, and he was on duty.

Some boys were playing soccer at the netball court when i asked them to leave. The netball court was not for profilgate boys to kick balls around and spoil our fences. I had little authority, and the boys balked at my request and wanted to start a strife.

When HE walked over to clarify the matter, the boys made mandacious accusations at me. They said that i had not asked politely and even used vulgarities. I was appalled that these boys of a mere age of 11 could lie without even batting an eyelid. I was furious, and would have punched them in their faces if i could. The one thing i hated was being wronged, and what the boys had said was utter rubbish!

*This is not the point*

The point is,  i felt so protected, although HE was helping me probably only because it was the right thing to do.

Beautiful
.Y21:09.
the myriad stars of a summer night

It was like looking into his eyes. Those deep set, electric blue eyes, the eyes i could not stop staring into. The eyes of the very special him.

He accommodated everyone. Walking with him, i hoped that we were peregrinating a bridge that went on and on and never ever ended. Even if the bridge snapped, at least we fell together. A stupid thought you may think, but well, it was what i had really felt. It was inevitable, i just loved his presence. Every morning, when i woke up, he would be my very first thought. " and today, i get to see him again" He drove me to work hard. How? many would ask. Ah well, for a  very silly reason once again. Because, it did not get exemplary results, we weren't ever going to be in the same class again.

He had innate musical talent, the elegance he had when playing the violin, the soul he puts in when he is playing the guitar, the poise he had when playing the piano. How i miss watching his performances. Those performances always brought a spontaneous burst of applause. The applause that i coontributed to.

Maybe its time I let go, maybe its time to stop thinking...

He was cute, he was tall, he was smart, he was genuinely He was an assiduous student, one i loved asking questions. He never failed to answer me with a smart answer. He was resourceful, you need bears, he knew where to get them, you needed to find the weirdest of things, and he would definitely know the place.

Some called him eccentric, but to me, he was a pure genius, the all rounder, an athlete, a mathematician, a leader. That guy, every girl knew and every girl loved.

He had manifold duties, he was my leader, but yet he could cope with everything that came his way. How i had once admired him, and how i still do.

It was an enigma, but to me, he was impeccable, flawless. Perhaps, it was just me who thought so, perhaps...

Together
.Y20:34.
The 5 of us. All together, we made a coterie of our own. We shared everything, the secrets, the fond memories and the woe. Although we were all gregarious, we could not be separated. It was hard for anyone to understand how from just classmates, we became best friends. We always fought, argued, quarrelled, but for some reason, it all didnt matter. It was just a way we communicated, no apologies were needed, we just someone how manage to patch it up.

We practically had a sendentary lifestyle. Besides P.E, all we loved to do was sit and talk, gossip mostly, but isn't gossiping what a girl does best? Everytime we talked, it felt as though we had a cache of gossips kept in a secret hiding place. For some reason, we always had things to talk about, out topics never ran out, especially when we sidetrack from the original topic, and people wonder, how do they ever complete their work?

What was even better, we dominated the class. We always had the upper hand of things, we were all prefects of which one of them was the Head prefect, how could we not be respected?

Forever,
they will have a place in my heart.
Through the thick and thin we've been though,
we never bowed down.
Together,
we're fomidable,
together as one,
together...

Responsibility
.Sunday 8 March 2009Y16:50.
Responsibility. Something for which one is responsible; a duty, obligation, or burden.

We are Culpable for all that we do. Sometimes our actions may lead to consequences. Under such circumstances, we have to persevere through it all.

For instance,

On a daily basis, students engage in woolgathering, we daydream all the time, but in the end, we would have to be responsible for these actions. Mostly, it would affect our results, and we have to be prepared to face the consequences.

Of course, one has to liquidate the engagement in woolgathering in order. Woolgathering would definitely preclude us from progressing in our work. At the end of the day, it all comes down to responsibility. It makes up most  parts of our life, and could make or break us.

As life progresses, our responsibilities gets heavier, and we, as adults, would have to learn to cope.

Responsibility. A duty.

Aspirations!
.Monday 2 February 2009Y22:02.
She once said that she has aspired to be an astronaut. I remember the day that she said it. We were watching the Discovery channel. There was a programme on astronauts and what they do. When the programme ended, she suddenly jumped out of her chair and shouted in a stentorian tone, " Being an astronaut is such a singular job! I, Adeline Phua Chun Mei, aspire to be an astronaut! I will work towards my goal from now onwards! And prove to all the biased guys out there that I, Adeline Phua Chun Mei, can be better than them! "

I stared at her wide eyed, thinking that she had gone completely insane and scurried where she was sitting. I looked at her right in the eye and said, " Adeline, have you gone crazy? I'm really worried, SPEAK TO ME. " With that, both of us started to laugh atrociously loud, stumbling onto the floor, and rolling on our backs, laughing like two strangled chickens.
